Blog Rules
Rules for Blogging
The class blog is an extension of our classroom, therefore all class, school, district, and federal rules apply. Remember, to receive credit for your blog, you must follow the blogging rules.
To use the class blog, you must agree to the following:
* When posting on the blog, use the following format for your user name:
1) Use your full last name and first initial of your first name. Example: Lincoln, A.
2) Use your correct email address when prompted. This will serve as your password and will allow me to contact you if necessary.
* Keep it clean: Keep the language clean, free of profanity, racism, bigotry, etc… Be responsible and respectful.
* Keep it positive: Do not insult, put down, or belittle classmates. If you disagree, be sure that your comments are sensitive to others and well supported with evidence. Be responsible and respectful.
* Keep it free from spam: A concept called “comment spam” is both aggravating and annoying. “Comment spam” consists of generic comments such as “I like it!” or other random text that is incomplete and meaningless. Be responsible and respectful.
* Keep it thoughtful: Remember, the posting on the Internet is like writing to the world. Once it is on, it never really goes away and it is possible for anyone to read it. Make sure your posts are well thought-out and deliberate. You will not be able to edit or delete your posts once they have been submitted. Be responsible and respectful.
* Keep it correct: Typos and spelling errors are distracting. Show your readers that your posts are worth our time. Be responsible and respectful.
* Be successful: In order to receive credit for your posts, you must respond in complete sentences in a well-developed response. At this level, you should know what this means.
* Do it right the first time: All comments will be reviewed before receiving credit or being posted on the blog. If your comment is late, incomplete, lazy, off-topic, or does not follow the rules, your post will not appear on the blog and you will not receive credit. You will have one chance to submit your response for each assigned posting so be sure you do it right the first time.
* Be intelligent: Blogging and Text-Messaging have nothing in common! Do not use clever keyboard shortcuts to avoid having to spell out the word.
* Don’t be cute: This site is a chance for you to express your thoughts and knowledge about a variety of topics. You will be assessed on how well you demonstrate critical thinking, and thoughtful writing. Be absolutely sure that your tone shines through your writing. This means that you will not rely on cute smiley faces or other pictures to show your emotions. No emoticons.
* Think before you write. Be responsible and be safe. Be appropriate and sensible. When blogging you are an online author and reader. Think before you write. There will be consequences if you abuse the privilege of being a part of this extension of the classroom.
